Advice:

Find a mentor who is currently in the field.

About me:

Did you grow up having a passion for aviation or an influence in your life to introduce you to aviation?

My passion for aviation started on a field trip in elementary school. Since that moment, I knew that I wanted to be in the Aerospace Industry. I also have a passion for flying and it brings me great pleasure to soar the skies.

What brought you into the avionics community?

When I was a child, I found interest in electronics and engineering. My parents purchased me an Erector set (engineering and robotics) and that accelerated my interest in electronics. Combined with my love for aircraft and electronics, I enlisted in the U.S. Air Force Reserves after High School. Eventually, the love for aviation drove me to apply to Avidyne Corporation.

Did you go to school or certification program prior to joining the industry?

Yes. I graduated from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in 2020.

What does your day to day look like in your current role?

My day-to-day roles and responsibilities include assisting end-users with Avidyne FMS, autopilot, MFD and transponder operational inquiries. As a Pilot Support Representative, it is imperative that I provide the customers with technical knowledge that will ensure ease of use with our products while maintaining flight safety awareness.

What do you find most enjoyable about your job?

The most enjoyable part of my job is when the customer is able to resolve an issue with me on the phone in real time. The "aha moment" that the customer experiences, provides satisfaction that cannot be measured. Just knowing that the customer has more operational knowledge of his/her equipment is insurmountable.

Do you have any advice for someone beginning their career or transferring into the avionics community?

The one thing I would recommend is to find a mentor that is currently in the field. One must possess a level of passion that exceeds beyond any form of self-aggrandizing. The Aerospace industry has many entities that one could explore. I would suggest that an individual take time out of his/her schedule to really study and appreciate the industry. I learn something new every day and it is very exhilarating.
